The Disappearance of the LGBT 'Middle Line'

The main idea of the disappearing 'middle line' of the LGBT movement is the whether they should be treated as fully equals; and if we should continue to allow religious institutions to discriminate because of their beliefs.

In the article, it states that we are either fully in support of LGBT or not at all. We cannot be 'on the fence' about the subject at hand. Many institutions are required to have full LGBT equality and that includes schools, military, medical professions, the media, and other non-profit organizations. I remember from a few years ago when my brother was in Boy Scouts, the organization was wanting to allow boys who were gay into the program. Some parents had problems with this and took their kid out of Boy Scouts. Now, they allow gay and lesbian leaders to be in charge of their club. Then, LGBT was a little less accepted than it is now. In some cases it would almost seem like those pushing for those rights are not at all concerned with running over those who avoid or do not agree with them.

Christians are the most likely to be ridiculed for standing up for their belief.

I have been a participant in the effort to encourage Protestant religious conservatives, generally known as fundamentalists and evangelicals, to reconsider their position voluntarily. The same conversation is happening in almost every US religious community.

This quote was said by David Gushee, who has written about the disappearing LGBT 'middle line'. The irony is that he is not even giving them a choice in the say. He is "forcing" the act of changing their minds about their belief. Christians in this position either stand strong in their faith or turn away when struggle comes to their door. The article's verse for this was, “They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us.” 1 John 2:19

Hillary Clinton created a video for her campaign that stated, "We need to stand up for all rights for LGBT Americans." Many people also in support of that listen to her campaign; when an article revealed that not but three years ago she was against LGBT. She watched the public opinion and sought after it. More and more support her every day. Soon enough with growing acceptance towards this, there might even be an LGBT president.

Tolerance of this is obviously not invited among the people who support full gay equality. Whether it be in workplaces or institutions, eventually you will have to pick a side, one of which you will be arguing against the other. This is the slow extinction of the safety net we call 'the middle line'. You can hide from the changing world, but you can choose where you stand and you don't need someone telling you where to go.
